Oel hasn’t no desire to compete so he stayed put where he won’t be under any scrutiny or pressure. I applaud him

Haha...well that's one way to look at it!

Honestly, some guys enjoy not being in the spotlight..That could change though. Yotes are definitely on the rise

Last year Raanta was not what Talbot was for Edm in 16-17, and whatever else went wrong. Hoping 18-19 season plays out like the team is on paper. How can a little part of ya not cheer for the Yotes and OEL.

Logically wouldn't he have more pressure on him in a place where he is the all time greatest player than if he went to Toronto and became the 14th most famous guy on the team? I'm not sure you fully thought this out.

Well he signed to be mired in mediocreness for the rest of his career. Lots of money and no real pressure from the fans. Attendance speaks volumes..

Sort of like Shane Doan.

OEL taking the Shane Doan approach...won't win, gets to be a leader and important player on a lifetime crappy team. Easy money, good life in AZ, no pressure. Yotes have no one close to his status as a top 30 Dman and he'll always be the guy there. Smart.

Matt Martin getting traded probably got more press than OEL's extension, so even though he's obviously exaggerating, he does make a point...

No, b/c the fans and media in Toronto, NY, Chi, Edm, Bos., etc. are much more critical of their teams and players. Being the big fish on a team in Ariz, Fla, Dallas, Anaheim, etc. is much less stressful and pressure pact than in places where winning is expected/demanded.

If Ariz doesn't win, fans simply don't come. The players don't get treated like shiiit heels like they do in traditional hockey markets when they play bad/lose

If you want to use logic, simply look at the traditional market teams vs non traditional market team blogs on this website. It is easy to see the differences between the two.

Hey Tan-Tan...what do you honestly expect from the Oilers this year? A kick ass season, a squeak I to the playoffs, a near miss or a disaster?

Mr. T., when you write about the Yotes it seems to be technically still a Caps-blog, as the last of later disappears from the main-page in exchange for the new one. This is especially problematic as we're urgently expecting one of their three fans coming back from their bandwagon-holidays, and now looking out for their "blog-home"... Do you think EK can fix this? ( )

Ugh, Not everyone is going to Toronto or wants to but if he did go there he would be the 3rd most famous guy behind Matthews and JT. I think he stayed because he's loyal and didn't sign with the team that matched his bedsheets that his mommy bought him 20 years ago. That's why OEL is a very respected player for not dragging teams through a circus like other players did.

14th most famous?? Give me a break. If OEL went to Toronto, he'd be their #1 Dman and would be under enormous pressure and scrutiny. Playing in AZ is about as pressure free an environment one can play in and still be playing in the NHL. Honestly, it's really a shame that one of the top 5 things Yotes fans have to look forward to wasn't a new blogger on this site.

My favorite thing is that you are arguing with a guy who clearly picked that number out of the air in order to make a point. "Actually, he'd be the seventh best...." come on man!!!

The argument that a player who signs in Phoenix (or Columbus, Dallas, Florida, Tampa etc) doesn't 'want to win' got the exact response it deserves. Stop trying to hold exaggerations to a literal standard and ask instead "what point is this guy making by exaggerating?'

Am I the only one who noticed him saying Carlson is not even close to the level of OEL.
